Honest Scrap Blog Award
Sweetie Pie Ann picked me to receive this little blog award and to share a bit more about myself. Thanks Ann!Here's the info on the blog award:
- Say thank you and give a link to the presenter of the award
- Share “10 Honest Things” about myself
- Present the award to 9 other bloggers whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design or to those who have encouraged me
- Be sure to tell the 9 bloggers chosen that you are giving them the Honest Scrap award and provide the guidelines for them
10 Honest things about me:
- I drink waaaaay too much coffee per day.
- I think I look forward to checking the mail more so than the average adult.
- I only blurt out about 10% of the actual craziness random thoughts/connections that's going on in my mind. That should scare you if ever spoken to me!
- I have taught 3 or 4 people how to parallel park.
- I grind my teeth and suck the insides of my cheeks, awake and asleep.
- I am a compulsive buyer when it comes to online shopping on Etsy.
- I need to print out about 2 years worth of photos!
- I say seriously, literally, actually, and probably other similar adverbs A LOT.
- It's rare to see me without a ponytail or a headband.
- I remember complete story lines/theme songs/characters from episodes of shows and cartoons from childhood. It's kinda weird. I'm not talking one or two favorite shows. I'm talking hundreds.

My Childhood Crushes
Because I enjoy lauging at myself, I present to you...
MY TOP CHILDHOOD CRUSHES!
MY TOP CHILDHOOD CRUSHES!
First off, Mike Seaver. I'm totally going with the bad boy image he exuded for my reasoning on this one. I think he's a bit nutty now-a-days to find him attractive anymore, but I know I wasn't alone in thinking Mr. Cameron here was a hottie. I remember him on the covers of TigerBeat and Bop Magazine. {mega blast from the past there, right? remember begging for those mags at the grocery store so you could rip it apart and plaster your walls?}
2nd, Michael Landon. I watched him in Highway to Heaven every week. I remember crying when I found out he died. Reason for hotness: feathered hair.
3rd: Jordan Knight. I had the tapes, the books, the dolls, the curtains, the bed sheets, even the doll. He had the right stuff. He was the ONLY member of New Kids I even cared about. I remember staying up for their t.v. special and taping it. I watched that over and over. He was supposed to marry me if you didn't know.
4th: MacGyver! I would fake tummy aches from elementary school in order to come home in time to watch the reruns on USA network. {I actually did this a lot. I had the day figured out to what time I could leave in order to not be counted absent and would fake tummy aches about 3 times a week. Also watched Gilligan's Island, The Munsters, and Brady Bunch on TBS when I played elementary school hookie.} Maybe falling in love with MacGuyver is why I find my electronics technician hubby so hot now, it's engrained in me. HA!
5th: Tom Selleck. Now here's the twist. I thought he was the same guy on The Young and The Restless--Victor. Grandma watched a lot of soaps and still does. I actually think my name is from someone on one of these soaps, but anways back to the list... So really, I was in love with Victor's character who I thought was Tom Selleck on Magnum, PI.; but Tom Selleck was the hotter version of him. Anyways, I must have had a thing for mustaches or something.

6th: Tommy the Green then later White Ranger
Now see, the pink ranger on the show was his girlfriend and guess what her name was? KIMBERLY. My name! I would never consider a guy with a ponytail now.
7th: Fred Savage. I would watch The Wonder Years and seemed so much like a real life kid that could be my neighbor or something. I could just imagine us sharing a peanut butter and jelly or something. He reminded me of a boy scout in 5th grade I had a crush on named Dusty Large, who by the way was extremely short kid.
8th: Jonathan Brandis. Gosh I wish he wouldn't have ended his life. I just know he would have ended up one of the sexiest guys the older he got. I first fell for him in Neverending Story 2. In fact, it's probably blasphemy, but I prefer Neverending Story 2 over the first one just because of Jonathan.

Adventures in Yard Saling
I was {finally, wow} sick of sitting in the house. I woke up super early on Saturday and decided to go yard saling. I mapped out all the spots from the paper ads, made a plan, and set off.
This was probably my best snag of the day. I don't think you can tell from the picture, but this is about 75% the size of my front door. It's truly massive. This picture still had the original price tag on the back that said $145. I got it for $5. I have future plans of doing my kitchen in green, so this will be perfect.
I got this for Dylan for a quarter. It was still in the original packaging. The man gave it to me so quick so he could hide his stuff his wife was trying to sale in his truck before she walked back outside.
I had been looking at these type Dutch decorative clogs on the internet for a while. And while I could find them pretty cheap online, the shipping was killer. I have plans for these to go in my soon to be newly renovated bathroom that will be in a teal, red, and cream color palette.
I absolutely ADORE pretty much anything milk glass. I'm not super keen on the grape pattern. I prefer the hobnail bumpy type the best. But for $4, this huge size of a fruit bowl at an estate sale was to be mine!
I don't exactly know what I will do with this. It was only a quarter. Do you ever go to yard sales and don't anything you want, but almost feel guilty for not getting SOMETHING? This is one of those buys.
Yay! A jack-in-the-box. Hopefully it won't scar my kids to be scared of clowns like it did my brother, but they are already having fun with it. It works and everything for only a quarter.
I got some other stuff, but not nearly as photo worthy. Stuff like summer play shorts for Dylan-- he's growing like a weed lately. A really old glass of a 40's patriotic pin-up girl holding a flag, but on the inside of the cup you can see her naked booty. Ha ha! It was really refreshing just to drive around with no kids and no agenda or time restraints. Great day. :)

Secret Spy Shopping
I don't even know what to call what I did, but it's just funny. Okay? Sooo... on a whim, I decided I was going to secretly send people gifts that would make them laugh. I wouldn't tell them it was from me or that they were gonna be getting a package. Just total random surprise!
Number 1
Recipient: My Mother!
Gift: Celebrate San Antonio: A Cookbook
My momma is originally from San Antonio, Texas. She also loves to cook. She has a thing for older cookbooks as well. She called me when she got it squealing. She's already made a list of things to buy to try out new recipes. Inside the book are pictures of San Antonio landmarks that made her tear up a bit.
Number 2
Recipient: My Brother!
Gift: Alf Comic Book, 1st Issue
This one is super hilarious to anyone that knows my brother. As a small child, whenever Alf came on t.v., he would hide behind the couch and cry. He was terrified of Alf for some reason. He is an avid comic book collector, so this was right up his alley and keeping with my theme, pretty frickin' random, right? When he got it, he probably said, "WTF" (I'll just abbreviate that for you readers...) with his mouth hung open for 10 minutes. He had no idea there was an Alf comic book either. Just to make it even better, his girlfriend was there when he opened the package and didn't know about the whole Alf-thing. I love embarrassing my little brother. :) He told me that he hates it, but loves it at the same time. He has plans on getting it framed.
Number 3
Recipient: Miss Cat
Gift: Vintage Ceramic Avon Perfume Decanter Owl
Cat has a love for all kitschy things and collects owls. She always sees things on Etsy/Ebay she loves, but seems to talk herself out of ordering it. After searching for the perfect little owl doodad, I found this little guy. She called me when she got it. She was completely confused. Her husband was like, "Did you order something? You have a package." She saw my first name in the invoice order form and figured it out after a little bit. So cute! I hope it brightened her day.
Number 4
Recipient: Katie Kate
Gift: 1920 Ice Coupon Book
So Katie knew I was doing this, but didn't know she was going to be one of the recipients. In fact, we were chatting about it online when I ordered hers. Now the story behind this one is that Katie is THE coupon queen. Like she can get $200 worth of groceries for about $30. She does have about 20 cans of oatmeal in her kitchen at the moment and at one time 120 glade plug-in refills, but hey, it works--she got 'em free, so I won't pick on the girl. Another thing, whenever I go to her house, she never has ice. Well, here's a coupon book for 500 lbs. of ice that will be delivered to her front door. Um, if maybe she lived in South Dakota about 90 years ago. She messaged me online saying she had a suspicious package. :) Love it!
Number 5
Recipient: My Step Dad
Gift: 45th anniversary Miracle Whip commemorative pocket knife
Now he hasn't got his yet. I'm even betting he's thinking he's not in on this whole thing I'm doing since my mom and brother got theirs 2 weeks ago. The man has an infatuation with Miracle Whip. It cannot be mayonnaise. In fact, his mom once put store brand mayo in a Miracle Whip jar to save a few cents, didn't think he would notice. Danny definitely did! We've caught him making fried Miracle Whip sandwiches once. The whole Miracle Whip/mayo thing is an on-going joke we all in the family have with him. My brother wrapped up and gave him a super size jug of it for Christmas one year. Daddy was genuinely happy about it. The whole jug only lasted 2 months tops. True love, got it? I promise to you update you with his reaction.

Turning my coffee snob membership card back in...
I really can't get over myself. Being a former barista and all, I remember when I could tolerate 10-14 shots of espresso. I'm not even exaggerating. Working at the coffee shop, there was always a leftover shot, a grind tester shot, a training-new-employees shot, etc. It was easy to rack up on them. I would turn my nose up to the thought of instant coffee or using milk and sugar. Yup, done that too in the past lately. Today I bought a bag of Folgers Morning Brew. It's a light roast. Did you hear that? L-I-G-H-T. It's probably been the best cup of coffee I've had in 6 months.

Infomercials- As Seen on TV!!
My 3 1/2 year old son is obsessed with informercials. He got pixos for Christmas. Pixos, by the way, are fricking awful. They take an entire day to dry. The little pen does not gently dispense them out, it's more like jet propels them across the room. We've played with it just twice. I'm glad we just got the starter kit.
The only thing Dylan asked Santa for was a remote control helicopter. Over and over, it's all I heard about. Of course he meant one of those Air Hogs from the commercials. This isn't too bad. The only downfall is that the charge on it only lasts for about 5 minutes playing time. Daddy likes playing it just as much as Dylan.
I got a sewing machine for Christmas and he asks me to make him a snuggie. Yes, a snuggie for him. I think they look like cult members. Dylan even does the commercial like the lady flipping out with her blanket because she can't answer the phone with her arms. You know what I'm talking about, yes? I may make it him one, but it will be a print or something less-cult-ish.
Now I'm being told I need Mighty Mend It. He stops what he is doing to tell me how much I need it. How it's my lifes' dream. Yes, he really does say lifes' dream to me. :) I need it especially to scrapbook with, as they show that in the commercial. I don't know what scrapbooker would use such expensive glue to scrap with. The crap is 20 bucks plus shipping for 3 tiny bottles. I cannot stand how tv shows scrapbooking to look so lame. I also need Mighty Mend It to fix Sam's face with? I have no idea where that one is coming from and it kinda weirds me out.
The cutest one is the KidzBop CD informercials one. Dylan tells me he wants to be a singer kid like those kids. He will dance and sing trying to show me why he should be one. He points to the boy singer at the beginning with the blonde hair saying, "That one is me, Momma!"
I swear we really don't watch that much tv. Usually when Dylan watches tv, he is watching Noggin--commercial free channel. These infomercials really stick out to him. It's pretty funny.

A 3 year old's explanation of space
First of all, it is not space, but it is called PACE according to Dylan. You can go to Walmart and get a rocket ship, but you need to make sure you get a PACE helmet, PACE shoes, PACE shirt, etc. too. Keep in mind Momma wants a pink rocket ship, that is important. You can't get out of the rocket ship in PACE, even with your PACE clothes on. See, PACE is black water with stars floating in it. If you get out of the rocket ship, you will drown. Your PACE clothes will get all wet and Momma would get mad if that happened. You could maybe jump on the moon if you wore your PACE helmet. The helmet has air in it so you "won't run out of breath". But with the moon, you would have to watch out for aliens. Some are nice aliens like on the Backyardigans when they went to the moon, but some are bad guys. Make sure you bring a PACE bammer to get the bad guys with. You have to make sure everyone goes on the rocket ship with you, because you will be in PACE for a long time that you would miss everyone; especially Wilson, the dog. Dogs can't go in PACE, sorry. And this is why I love my 3 year old son. :)

My Peter Pan?
So in the car today out of nowhere Dylan starts crying.
I ask what is wrong.
He starts warbling that he doesn't want to be a grown up.
I ask what he is talking about.
He says because I have hair on my arms that means I'm turning into a big man and I just wanna be a big kid.
I tell him it's okay, he's still a big kid.
But seriously, what the heck? This is too funny to me.
oh and here's pumpkin number 2. Dylan wanted a scary one too.

Arms
Can someone explain to me why action figure toys of now-a-days arms are detachable? I don't remember this as a kid. I played with my fair share of ninja turtles, hulk hogans, and he-mans. That was the good part of action figures compared to barbies. No matter what, your barbies head would come off and never go back on that white ball thing. I have 3 Jack Sparrows at the moment all missing something.
