{24 Days of Christmas}

My friend, Katie, is doing an awesome series of blog posts for the month of December called {24 Days of Christmas} on her Scrap Log Blog. I invite you all to go peek and join in! It will be featuring Christmas crafts and really yummy recipes. A new post each day, it'll be like an advent calendar online!

She's very talented. You can view her etsy shop, Smart Lil Cookie, to get a feel for things to come. Her first tutorial includes a step-by-step on how to make these gorgeous glittered Christmas tree tags.

I've ate Katie's baking, you're gonna love her food. Sooo good in fact, she uses her goodies to bargain favors {I would have done them anyway, but whatever, just saying....} with me.

Looking for someone to hold a giveaway for your website/etsy shop? Katie would happily love to! Follow/DM her on Twitter- @kmthornton or leave a comment here and I'll pass it along it to her.

Moppo the Pumpkin

I've said it before, but Halloween is my favorite holiday. There's not been a year I did not have a pumpkin. I even did my own pumpkin before I had kids and not living at home. Cliff's dad took Dylan to the Methodist church's pumpkin patch and got him one for us to carve up. I'm thankful for that, because we were running on broke and it's not fun only have your Halloween pumpkin for 2 days (our payday) before the actual holiday.

Dylan was ready to make his jack-o-lantern the moment he got home. I mean the moment he got home. I love to see him so excited about things. I think his favorite part was getting all the pumpkin seeds out. He was saying they were pumpkin brains. A little funny that made me giggle: Dylan asked me if we take the pumpkins brains out will it turn into a pumpkin zombie? Ha!

And then oh lord, I turned around for half a second and he was stabbing the thing to death. Ahhh! There are probably about 80 random stab marks all over. See that piece of paper laying in the background? Yeah, Dylan was not having that. We were not drawing a face first. So I had to breathe, remind myself he's 4 years old, and not everything has to be perfect and just let him go at it. It's a personal problem I have in me about these type things, it happens with coloring Easter eggs too.

The eye isn't exactly carved out, more like screwed and chiseled out. He made eyebrows, but no mouth or nose. And no mom, he doesn't want the pumpkin to have those parts either I was instructed. But Dylan did name his pumpkin Moppo and wanted the pumpkin to have its' name carved into it. No idea where this notion came from, but it makes laugh!

Isn't this just pitiful? He tells me we are all done and to take a picture. Right at this exact moment, he realized Moppo only had one eye. Besides the fact there's no mouth or nose, Moppo must have two eyes. Back to carving!

So we get the next eye in, I scramble around finding a candle and such, and Dylan is totally over having anymore pictures taken. Isn't that how it goes? This is his "you're lame, Mom" look you're seeing now. Oh teenage years are going to be so much fun. <>

He really does love Moppo though. After Halloween, Dylan has it in his mind that we will cut a hole in the bottom so that he can wear it on his head. I'm hoping the insides of Moppo will be gross by then to change his mind on this idea. Oh and if you didn't know, Dylan tells me that having a jack-o-lantern scares vampires away from your house. Awesome!

Vampire Bat Cozy Giveaway

I have always loved Halloween. It is so hard for me to exactly pin-point down my most favorite costume. Pirate girl was up there, but no one got to really see it that year because it was so cold, so I looked more like Light Brown Plaid Coat Girl instead. I think I was a witch for about 6 years after that.

I can definitely tell you the worst costume! Mom comes out of her room with and was like pick: Ghost or Punk Rocker. I had no idea what a punk rocker was, so Mom tried to pull it off as if I was one of the Jem! girls, but once we were done I thought I looked more like one of the bad guys from Jem!--ya know, The Misfits girls. Not pleased, nope nope.

I think the year I was a teddy bear was the best, cutest yet. It was just one of those plastic sheet shirt costumes, but Mom did me up real good with face paint and pig tails. I think it was some girly version of a Teddy Ruxpin. I thought I had a photo of it already uploaded to the net, but oh well, guess not.

Besides just reminiscing about my favorite holiday, wanted to tell you that Flapper Girl Blog is giving away 3 limited edition (just for Halloween) coffee cozies. She wants to hear about your favorite costumes too. Check it out, by clicking here.

Father's Day Recap

Visited the grave of my Papa for the first time since he died. Dylan went with. Papa was my most positive male influence growing up. He's in a mausoleum which is kinda weird, makes me feel more disconnected than an actual grave, but ya know, the visit wasn't as sad and depressing as I had built it up in my mind. I think knowing he would have been over 90 years old if still alive now makes it easier for me. Happy Father's Day Papa!

We aren't super big on presents around here. Plus, it feels silly for me to use the money Cliff earns at his job to buy him a gift that he may or may not like. So, I decided to break out my inner-homemaker {she's in there somewhere...} and bake Clifford some peanut butter cookies. Now, we don't have a mixer, so ummm, yeah, I used the blender. Got picked on about that. I was up to my elbows in specks of peanut butter trying to help the blender do it's job. The cookies I made on my baking stones turned out awful. Like thin, flat bread almost? I got about 10 normal cookies out of all of it and decided I would make a surprise giant cookie for Cliff's father day! It looked completely done once, but wasn't, so I had to remush it all back in the pan and re-bake it some more. Well, Cliff peeked in the oven about halfway through! GRRRR! He loved it anyways and even posed with a smile for once. And hey, it actually DOES taste good.

April 12 of 12--Easter Edition!

How I like to start my day: on the back porch with a cuppa with ice cubes so I can drink it right then!

Cliff working on the back yard in peace before the kids wake up. The entire back of the truck is filled to the top and he's no where near done.

Dylan is thrilled checking out his Easter basket! He said he saw the Easter Bunny while he was sleeping and that he's a pink boy one.

Easter egg hunt in the front yard. Almost all of these pictures are Dylan holding an egg just like this in front of his face telling me what color the egg is.

If you look closely in the air in the upper left hand side, you'll see a flying yellow egg. Also notice the eggs in the lower right hand side. Uh, yeah, Cliff and Dylan started an egg throwing fight. Typical of them two!

Cliff got a hair in his butt (ha ha, I kill myself with cheesy puns) and decided to shave the dog. Wilson loved it and looks like a little puppy now.

Dylan doing some birdwatching with his binoculars. He claims to have seen a red eyed sloth bird.

Their Great Grandma Joan stops by to visit. Dylan decides to go to her house to play for a few hours.

Mandatory self portrait in the car with Hubs too. I absolutely love over sized glasses and don't care how ridiculous I look.

Liberty Mutual is on my street corner and every day until Tax Day we see this guy advertising for them. He happily posed for this picture I took while at the stop sign.

Stopped by my Momma's house to pick up the boy's Easter baskets. She was happy to get a little one on one time with Sam.

Finishing our day off playing with Dylan's new chalks and watching Amazing Race. I think those two girls in the background on the t.v. (the basketball player team) are floating by and oughta be out already. It was a non-elimination round with the short stuntmen team more than likely set up to lose on the next episode.

Belated Valentine's Day

First, some bragging Mommy photos:
This is a little sleeper my scrappy friend, Denise, got for Sam just in time for Valentine's Day. Of course, me being a scrapbooker, I had to take pictures of him in it. So cutie and sweet.

Knowing Denise's humor, I know she would find Sam's facial expression funny in this one. Just had to include this one on the post. It's like he is saying, "Why Mom, Why?!"

Now about our Love Day:My mom wanted us to get out of the house, otherwise known as "I want the grandkids to myself", so she babysat the kiddies and insisting paying for us to go on a lunch date together for Valentine's Day. Sadly, the other grandparents had Dylan over for a sleep-over the night before and Dylan woke up at 4 AM; so he was knocked out asleep by noon at my Mom's house. Then, Samuel was fed the moment he got to her house and slept the entire time too. Mom was a little pouty about it all I think.

We took our little lunch date to Cracker Barrel. Is that nerdy? Not some fancy Italian restaurant or anything, but it's what we really wanted. We both go for there just for the french toast. And hey, look! We match in our green!

And in other news:I won 10 SwagBucks! That's never happened before. Made me all cheery! Well, until I realized I can't spell.

Winter Picnic/Letters to Santa

Starting to get bored around here, decided we would have a winter picnic in the front yard. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm nuts. Menu included: Tuna sandwiches (Dylan's favorite), Hot Dog Slices, Plain Lays, a Banana Split flavored Go-gurt, water, and sweet tea.
Dylan has written 2 "letter lists" for Santa so far. I write them exactly what he says and he decorates the letter with holiday stamps I have and colors them in. Here's one he wrote that is pretty funny to me.

"Dear Santa,
I've been a good boy. You will give me some presents? Am I on the good list, the bad list, or the crazy list and the monster list?
Love, Dylan"

I say he is a little bit on all 4 of those lists ha ha.

Picture Heavy Recap

Thanksgiving! This is my Mom's favorite holiday. It makes her happy to feed people. We celebrated at my Grandma's house this year, something we haven't done since I was a kid. I don't cook as I don't want people in the ER. Cliff is usually great with making food. He worked at almost every restaurant in town before his job with the base. He made a Macaroni Casserole, but forgot to double the cheese. Yuck! He also made a Chocolate Pudding Pie, but put too much milk. Not yuck, just not a pretty pie once you cut it. I say oh well. Mom had so much food that it was okay. And hey! Guess what? I usually HATE green bean casserole, but always take a bite thinking I will like it. It smells good and I love green beans, but ugh! This year, the grocery store ran out of cream of mushroom so Momma used cream of chicken instead and I LOVED IT. I hope she makes it that way again.
A bunch of us were in grumpy moods, me included, before the feast. We were all starving I suppose. Here's all of us grumpy butts watching football. It cracked us up how much Grandma had kept up with football this year. Her and Dad were going back and forth about this quarterback, etc.Dylan kind of understood Thanksgiving this year, mostly on part of Noggin. He was thankful for his Momma and Daddy he said. :) He was in a silly mood with his Meme. She can always get him in a good mood. He knows when he sees his Meme that she is gonna feed him good, especially on TURKEY DAY!My little brother. who is so love with his girlfriend right now, pulled himself away from her for Thanksgiving. I'm just teasing at him, but good grief, I don't remember being like that in the lovey-dovey phase with Cliff. It's even more weird to think that when I was my brother's age, I was already married and pregnant with Dylan. I so cannot imagine him being in that stage of his life. Obligatory self-portrait of us. His 21st birthday is coming up soon. He's still my little brother though. :)
